The Secret Circle

Nat| Pop Culture+ TV Shows

If you ask me to name one show I want to bring back on the screen the answer would be The Secret Circle.

Back in 2011, when everyone was crazy about The Vampire Diaries (and I know people are still crazy over the show now), I was crazy about the witches on  The Secret Circle.

If you are not familiar with the show, The Secret Circle was a TV show based on a book series of the same name written by L.J Smith. It tells a story about Cassie Blake who moves to Chance Harbor, Washington after the death of her mother. While adjusting to the new town, Cassie was hit by a secret by her classmates, Adam, Diana, Faye, Melissa, and Nick that she is a witch who comes from a long line of witches and is a final member of their convent which is called The Secret Circle. Though she didn’t believe them at the beginning, she found the family journal that has her mum’s letter for her telling her that she kept the secret from her to keep her safe. The series shows how the circle deals with dark and dangerous forces that are attracted to their powers while trying to live their teenage life as normal as they can.

I’m a sucker for any kind of supernatural beings. I remember when the show first came out I was very excited. I know that this is not the first TV show about witches (Charmed, anyone?) but at the time, it was the only TV show about witches that I was aware of.

The show lasted for one season before being cancelled. I was so pissed when it was cancelled. The season ended in cliffhanger at the most intriguing part of the show. I would literally pay money to find out what happens after that cliffhanger.

The cast of the show is terrific. I didn’t know most of them so it was fresh for me. Thanks to this show, I was introduced to the great Phoebe Tonkin. She plays Faye, the rebellious witch, really really well. Oh and she has great American accent as well. I was surprised when I found out that she is an Australian. After the show was cancelled, she then continue to be on The Vampire Diaries and its spin-off, The Originals. Another one that I like is Shelley Hennig. She is currenty on Teen Wolf, playing the role of Malia Tate. I personally don’t watch these two shows but it seems like they are doing well.

One thing I want to say is I haven’t read the books yet so I don’t know how accurate the show is or how good the show is compared to the book series.

People tried to petition to bring the show back but nothing happened 🙁 I recently found out that there are fans who petition for Netflix to pick up the second season of the show. I don’t know if it would happen so now, I’m just going to watch the first season over and over again to have my dose of the show.

xo,

Naths
