The Crown by Kiera Cass – Book Review
This is the continuation of the fourth book in the series, The Heir. This book focuses on Eadlyn’s journey in choosing her husband while taking on more responsibility and duties.
“I had power and no idea how to use it. I was a ruler who didn’t know how to lead. I was a twin who was on her own. I was a daughter with missing parents. I had a half dozen suitors and wasn’t sure how to be in love”
I wasn’t quite sure how I should feel about Eadlyn. I have always thought that she was spoiled and quite insensitive to those around her, which I could understand due to the fact that she was raised to be a queen her whole life. In this book though I saw a change in Eadlyn, which makes her character more likeable. Though I understand that these changes come from the challenges she faces throughout the story.
“There is no shame in loving who you love, and there is a great honor in doing what is right. It’s a pity those two things don’t overlap to us, but that makes this moment no less important to me”
The men in the Selection were all very lovely. It was very easy to root for each and every one of them so I wasn’t very sure who will Eadlyn choose at the end. The ending wasn’t surprising or anything for me but I felt really bad for the other guys because you can tell that they care for her. It is very different compared to Maxon and America’s Selection because the girls in their Selection were much more ambitious compared to these boys.
In term of storyline, I feel that the book is moving very fast. Especially towards the end when Eadlyn had to make her choice. It felt rush even though we got to see various little moments between Eadlyn and the boys throughout the book. I want to see more of Eadlyn and her fiancée (:p) The political issue in the book is also not fully addressed yet and I wish we got to see how it would be resolved.
Though a quick read, I did enjoy the book. I’m glad that there is change in Eadlyn and it is easy to root for her in this book compare to the last book. If you read the previous book, I think this book will not disappoint you.
“But the truth is, love is as much fate as it is planning, as much a beauty as it is disaster”
