Another Sweater Weather post, another royal romance books!
I don’t think it’s a secret anymore that I love royal romance books and somehow I managed to find another royal romance stories that I absolutely love; Royally Screwed and Royally Matched by Emma Chase. I was going through my blog posts the other day, preparing to post my Royally Matched review when I realised that I never post a review of Royally Screwed. Hence, the double review I’m giving you right now because they are part of the same series so why not!
Royally Screwed
Synopsis
Nicholas Arthur Frederick Edward Pembrook, Crowned Prince of Wessco, aka His Royal Hotness, is wickedly charming, devastatingly handsome, and unabashedly arrogant; hard not to be when people are constantly bowing down to you.
Then, one snowy night in Manhattan, the prince meets a dark haired beauty who doesn’t bow down. Instead, she throws a pie in his face.
Nicholas wants to find out if she tastes as good as her pie, and this heir apparent is used to getting what he wants.
Dating a prince isn’t what waitress Olivia Hammond ever imagined it would be.
There’s a disapproving queen, a wildly inappropriate spare heir, relentless paparazzi, and brutal public scrutiny. While they’ve traded in horse drawn carriages for Rolls Royces, and haven’t chopped anyone’s head off lately, the royals are far from accepting of this commoner.
But to Olivia, Nicholas is worth it.
Nicholas grew up with the whole world watching, and now Marriage Watch is in full force. In the end, Nicholas has to decide who he is and, more importantly, who he wants to be: a King… or the man who gets to love Olivia forever.
“Emotion hits me hard, making my heart feel too large for my chest. I stroke her cheek, because she’s so lovely – and because she’s mine. Then I whisper, “We’re royalty. That means… we’re forever””
Review
Let’s start with Royally Screwed; the first book of the series. I was super excited because I was super in the mood for a royal romance book when I heard about this book. Emma Chase is an author that I enjoy reading because she’s super hilarious. I know that this is going to be a good one and I wasn’t disappointed!
I was quite worried when I first read the synopsis because it’s the typical story of a royal falling in love with a commoner – and like we all know, the difference in social class would be a problem. BUT the cliché storyline didn’t make this book anything less than amazing. The dual POV really did it for me. I love guy’s POV in any romance novel, especially in Emma Chase novels. She writes male POV like a boss; I remember how much I loved Drew Evan’s POV from her other series, Tangled. I really like how their relationship developed. Though Olivia doesn’t want anything to do with Nicholas at first, he is persistent and doesn’t give up. They both understand that they can’t be together in the long run but they can’t deny the connection that they have. I couldn’t stop turning the page towards the end of the book because I just want them to be together and I want to know what happened at the end!
I love the characters. I love Nicholas. He can be an asshole but when he’s being super sweet to Olivia? Swoon. I don’t think any woman would stand a chance if Nicholas was in front of them. He’s a perfect mixed of sexy and caring. And him towards the end of the book? Melt. He’s just so charming. Being the crown prince is not an easy task. Olivia was the one good thing that doesn’t come with responsibilities and the one person he truly wants to be with.
Olivia, oh my. I love her SO MUCH. She is so strong and determined. She also loves her family so much and would do anything for them. Her and Nicholas are perfect fit, even if they might not look like it. Toward setbacks these two face makes my heart beat like crazy because I was feeling so many things. I was super nervous for them but I love how everything finally works out for them! Wait until you read the ending – it was absolutely perfect and I couldn’t stop smiling reading the last few chapters.
Other than the two of them, I absolutely love Nicholas’ brother, Henry and Olivia’s sister Ellie. They are entertaining and definitely the ones bringing the humour to the story.
This might be your classic storyline of a crown prince falling for a commoner, but it’s a story well told with real-life problems and flawed characters balanced out with sexy, will-make-you-blush romance.
Royally Matched
Synopsis
Some men are born responsible, some men have responsibility thrust upon them. Henry Charles Albert Edgar Pembrook, Prince of Wessco, just got the motherlode of all responsibility dumped in his regal lap. He’s not handling it well. Hoping to force her grandson to rise to the occasion, Queen Lenora goes on a much-needed safari holiday—and when the Queen’s away, the Prince will play. After a chance meeting with an American television producer, Henry finally makes a decision all on his own:
Welcome to Matched: Royal Edition.
A reality TV dating game show featuring twenty of the world’s most beautiful blue bloods gathered in the same castle. Only one will win the diamond tiara, only one will capture the handsome prince’s heart.
While Henry revels in the sexy, raunchy antics of the contestants as they fight, literally, for his affection, it’s the quiet, bespectacled girl in the corner—with the voice of an angel and a body that would tempt a saint—who catches his eye. The more Henry gets to know Sarah Mirabelle Zinnia Von Titebottum, the more enamored he becomes of her simple beauty, her strength, her kind spirit…and her naughty sense of humor. But Rome wasn’t built in a day—and irresponsible royals aren’t reformed overnight. As he endeavors to right his wrongs, old words take on whole new meanings for the dashing Prince. Words like, Duty, Honor and most of all—Love.
“Loving Henry has made me wild and brave, and his love for me has made him humble and calm. What a funny pair we are – better than any storybook couple I’ve read about and for me that’s the truest compliment I could ever give”
Review
“The tale of an unruly prince who found the queen of his heart, and learned how to be a King”
The quote above (which is the last sentence of the book) best explained what the second book, Royally Matched, is all about. I’m not going to hesitate saying that this is my favourite between the two!
If you love Henry in Royally Screwed, be prepared before you read this one because his charm is out on full force. He’s witty, hilarious, and super sweet if he wants to be. Being next in line to the throne all of sudden was not an easy transition for him. He had to give up his bachelor life. Although then he had –what he thought- was a good idea; a reality TV about a prince finding his princess. He thought he would have fun with all these different girls but he was overwhelmed instead. Until he met a girl who he feels easy to talk to; his sanctuary – Sarah.
Sarah is climbing up my favourite female character list. Due to her love for books, I think we all can relate to her at certain level. Other reason I find her super relatable for me is some of the qualities she has; shy, will rather be invisible in a room full of people, hates the idea of doing public speaking, and have the tendency to just start babbling in front of hot guys. (Hello, potential best friend!) We knew something happened to her; we got a glimpse of that in the previous book and it was explained in this book. She is such a strong character, I just want to hug her all the time.
I love the romance in this book. Since the beginning, you can tell that there is a chemistry between the two and though the attraction is there since the beginning, it was slow-paced romance – they started out as friends before any lines were crossed. If Sarah wants her very own Colonel Brandon, I want my very own Henry. Henry is just super super sweet with Sarah *cries* It’s a side of Henry that is only reserved for Sarah. The last three chapters are just so beautiful; it would be impossible not to fall for these characters and their love for each other.
Another thing I really like from this book is the characters development. You can see clearly how much these characters grew. Henry slowly becomes his own person, not just merely a guy with the title and overcome his fears of not being a good enough king. Sarah who comes out of her shell and overcome her fears of life in general. Nothing is more satisfying than to see the kind of love that really brings out the best in each other.
This has quickly become one of my favourite royal series. Emma Chase is one of my favourite author. Her books that I’ve read always made me laugh and these books are no exception. I also love how all these four characters are not perfect; they are flawed but they developed throughout the stories. Also, the way she writes will just suck you right into these young royals’ world. I am now waiting for the third book in the series, Royally Endowed. It will follow the story of Olivia’s sister and Logan, one of their bodyguard. I’m so excited for it because I feel that it’s going to be a little different from its predecessor despite being in the same universe.
Whether you are a fan of royal contemporary stories or not, I’m pretty sure you will enjoy reading these two books; you will get so lost reading the story. If you are in need of an escape, these two can definitely help you! 😉
